AfterWork
The boundless world of instruments
In this season too the Hamburg State Opera is inviting you to the ‚AfterWork‘. On specific Thursdays and Fridays, from 18.00 to 19.00 in the opera stabile you can celebrate with us the beginning of the weekend with different styles of music and theater from artists and guests.
Musical instruments, these marvels of sound, require materials from all over the world. And this is where instrument making also feels the effects of raw material extraction and climate change. To get European wood for violin making, you sometimes have to go as far as Georgia, while bow wood from South America is now subject to species protection due to deforestation. At this AfterWork, members of the Philharmonic State Orchestra will take you on a journey to Georgia and South America, talk about the cosmopolitan composition of a string instrument and what this means in today's world. All this without falling into hopelessness, because: Is there a better means of creating a spirit of optimism and a change of perspective than music?
