"Ciboulette" - meaning "chives" - is the name of the main character in the Parisian operetta by French composer Reynaldo Hahn, written in 1923. Hahn was born in Venezuela as the son of a Jewish entrepreneur from Hamburg, grew up in Paris, was the lover and friend of Marcel Proust, a well-known musical representative of the French Belle Epoque and, after returning from exile, director of the Paris Opera from 1945. As one of the last works in the genre, Hahn brings the world of the great 19th century operetta back to life in this operetta with references to Jacques Offenbach, George Bizet and Johann Strauss, with great humor, musical finesse and elegance. Nostalgia meets a lively plot about the trials and tribulations of lust and love. A nostalgia that director Sascha-Alexander Todtner takes as an opportunity to transport us to the queer New York subculture of the 1980s. This production by the International Opera Studio is the first time that Reynaldo Hahn's most successful stage work has been performed in the Hanseatic city.
